Answering your Care Questions

Live-in Care

  • How soon could a live in carer start with my mum?

We can begin a contract within just a few days. The first step is an initial assessment, which can be completed in person or over the phone. We then allocate your dedicated care manager, who carries out a full care assessment which is used to create the care plan. Once the contract is signed (and copies of LPA documents provided, if applicable), the care package can start.

  • Are the carers employed by you, or are they agency/contract carers?

You contract with us directly, and we employ the carers.

  • What training and qualifications do your carers have? What experience do they have?

All carers complete our in‑house training programme, regardless of their previous experience, to ensure they meet British care standards and our own quality expectations.

  • How do you match a carer with a client?

We match carers based on the client’s care needs as well as shared interests, hobbies, and personality fit.

  • Do carers have DBS checks and references?

Yes. All carers are DBS‑checked, and we follow up on references as part of our recruitment process.

  • Who is the point of contact if we have concerns — and is there 24/7 support?

During working hours, your Care Manager is your main point of contact. We also provide a 24‑hour support line, and I am available as well.

Care Plan & Flexibility

  • How flexible is the care agreement?

We use a standard contract with a two‑week notice period. You can suspend the contract for up to four weeks every six months if needed. I’m happy to email you our Service User Guide for full details.

  • Do you offer short term care (e.g., two weeks) with the option to extend? What does it cost?

There is an additional short‑stay charge depending on the length of the initial contract:

    •     1–7 days: £500
    •     8–28 days: £250

These charges are refunded if the contract is extended beyond the short‑term period.

  • How often can the care plan be reviewed and adjusted? Who reviews it?

Your care manager oversees the contract and makes any necessary adjustments. There is ongoing communication between the carer and the care manager to ensure the plan remains appropriate.

Costs & Logistics

  • What are your fees — and what’s included? Are there extra charges for nights, weekends, or travel?

Our weekly fees depend on the level of support required, and start from £1,295 a week. The total rate is based on your individual care assessment.

    These fees include:

    •     All care plans and assessments
    •     Travel
    •     Bank holidays
    •     Overnight on‑call cover

Carers also cook, shop, and provide light housework and laundry support.

  • What happens if the carer needs time off — do you provide backups?

Carers require a minimum two‑hour break each day. We ensure full cover is in place for holidays or planned time off.

  • How do you handle holidays or overnight cover?

Your carer will offer some night time support. However if there is a need for significant overnight support on a regular basis, an additional waking night carer may be required.

  • How often do carers rotate — and can we meet them beforehand?

We provide full cover throughout the contract. Typically, clients have 2–3 carers working on rotation, with an average stay of 6.8 weeks per carer. Our carer‑match success rate is 95.8%, and if there is ever a personality mismatch, we will arrange a change. You will receive a carer profile to review.

Your Local Home Care Team

Gillian Louggar – Registered Manager

I started working in care over 15 years ago.  I started as a Care Support Worker and quickly found that I really enjoyed being part of a care team.  Hearing people’s stories, being able to be a small part in ensuring they still knew they were valued and that they still had a lot to offer this world gave me a sense of knowing that this was the career path for me.

Working within Promedica24 has given me a great sense of team work, of the importance of supporting your team, and a great understanding of how putting the people who use our service first has great benefits for all.  I hope to lead with a servant heart, and enable my team to achieve their goals.  Care is where my heart lies, and being able to be a part of a fantastic care company in a leadership role is a challenge I am looking forward to, and one where I will give my very best.  I will uphold our values, and work hard with my colleagues to ensure we deliver the best possible person centred care.

Lesley Cruickshank-Robb – Care Consultant

After many successful years in nursing and my role as a residential Care Manager, I launched the Promedica24 East and Mid Sussex branch in 2017 to offer the people in my community a genuine alternative to residential care. Throughout the pandemic, I returned to the NHS part-time to support the nation’s fight against coronavirus.

With my background in nursing and experience in the residential care sector, I understand the importance of personalised care in improving people’s quality of life. I also understand the difficulties families face when navigating the complexities of the care system. The team and I are on hand to answer your questions and assist you throughout this journey. I look forward to working with you and ensuring we deliver the best support you need to live independently and well in the comfort of your own home.

I have a special interest in dementia and I am an active participant with the local Dementia Action Alliance. I am happy to run dementia information sessions for individuals and local organisations.

Katie Carr – Care Manager

I have worked in the care industry in a variety of settings and positions since 2004, joining Promedica24 in 2023 as a Care Manger.

I am passionate about quality care and advocating for people using the service. I love working with a company that shares my passion and values.

They can respectfully assist with toileting, bathing, dressing, or other personal care tasks.

Getting out and about

Support from a home carer allows you to maintain your independence while receiving care. Your carer can accompany you wherever you desire, whether it’s running errands, visiting friends, or even taking a weekend getaway, ensuring you have the freedom to enjoy your life without limitations.

What are the Benefits of Care at Home?

Preservation of Independence:

Home care excels in preserving the independence of individuals by allowing them to remain in the comfort of their own homes. Unlike residential care, which may necessitate a move to a communal setting, care at home enables people to maintain control over their environment, promoting a sense of autonomy.

Personalised Care in Familiar Surroundings

The freedom to receive personalised care in familiar surroundings is a cornerstone of care at home. Care plans are tailored to the unique needs and preferences of the individual, ensuring that daily routines and activities align with their accustomed lifestyle. This personalised approach contributes to a greater sense of freedom and well-being.

Flexibility in Daily Living

Home care provides unparalleled flexibility in daily living. Caregivers adapt to the individual’s schedule, allowing for a more dynamic and responsive approach to care. This flexibility extends to activities, social engagements, and personal pursuits, fostering an environment where individuals can live without the constraints of rigid institutional routines.

Emotional Well-Being Through Companionship

The companionship offered by home carers plays a crucial role in promoting emotional well-being. Unlike the potentially transient relationships in residential care facilities, carers become a constant presence in the individual’s life. This deep connection reduces feelings of loneliness, providing a sense of security and freedom to share life’s moments with a trusted companion.

No Relocation Stress

Care at home eliminates the stress associated with relocating to a residential care home. Home care allows individuals to stay within the comforting walls of their own homes, surrounded by familiar belongings and memories. This freedom from relocation stress contributes to a more seamless transition into the later stages of life.

Regulated and Rated “Good” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

FAQ

What does a live-in home carer do?

The primary role of a carer is to provide you or your loved one with the care and support they require to continue enjoying a comfortable and independent life, all from the comfort of their own home.

Responsibilities of a carer may include household tasks such as cleaning and laundry, preparing meals and snacks, helping you get out and about or providing assistance with personal care, such as bathing, getting dressed and going to the toilet. However, if your care needs are more complex carers may provide a higher level of care depending on your care plan. They can administer medication or support conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s.

Learn about the care conditions we support or start your free online care assessment.

How does Promedica24 select your live-in care team?

At Promedica24, our carers are the foundation of our business. That’s why we take necessary measures to ensure they are carefully selected, trained to a high standard and security screened, taking personal and professional references from previous care experience.

Many of our carers have chosen care as a vocation, having a love for what they do. We’re proud to have them as core members of our team.

Our carers report to our experienced care managers. Compared to an unregulated live-in personal assistant, this support system provides a quality of care you can rely on, giving you and your family peace of mind.

During your care assessment, we assess not only your care needs but also learn about your interests, beliefs, likes and dislikes so we can pair you with the right carer who you will develop a close and meaningful relationship with.

What is the difference between Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated care vs introductiory agencies?

Promedica24 is regulated and rated Good by the Care Quality (CQC) Commission. This means that we can provide you with fully regulated and safe care. Our high standards are not only set by us but also by the regulator.

Introductory agencies will not manage your care and you will have full responsibility for paying your carer’s salary, making sure that everything is covered from the tax perspective and trusting that your carer went through a robust recruitment process like the one that is required from the CQC regulated providers.

How does live-in care differ from residential care or hourly care?

Live-in care means that a carer will live in your home with you, full-time, in order to provide one-to-one personalised care.

Our live-in care packages give you the option to stay in your own home, with additional support and companionship. This means you can maintain your independence and stay close to friends, family, familiar neighbours and pets while giving you and your loved ones peace of mind.

Our carers will help you with things like cooking, cleaning, gardening, shopping and socialising, plus your morning and nighttime routines, so you can continue to plan out your days how you want to.
