Stress Awareness Month

Stress has certainly become a rather hot topic in light of the pandemic. Lots of people have seen their routines completely torn apart, whether that be in regards to their professional or home lives, creating insurmountable pressure we have never experienced before. That’s why Stress Awareness Month exists, giving people an opportunity to connect with others who may be suffering, and therefore creating a safe platform to obtain some much needed reassurance heading forward.

What is Stress Awareness Month?

Since April 1992, Stress Awareness Month has been held to raise the profile for both causes and cures mostly associated with the biggest issues people typically face. Every year, a brand new theme is introduced, and this time round, the focus will be on community, since rebuilding these around the world holds the key to batting away lots of issues we have faced over the past two years.

These past couple of years have been possibly the most challenging for us all from a mental health perspective, with uncertainty over our finances, and dealing with the tragedy of losing loved ones to Covid-19 and other illnesses. Many people have also become heavily isolated, which also contributes to a fragile mental state; enforcing a sense of comradery is being encouraged to improve support.

Even though we appear to be returning to some kind of normality, there are still certain aspects of our lives which could well be altered on a permanent basis. To better transition into this new way of living, it’s often better to tackle uncertainty alongside others, which is why this sense of community is the primary focus during this year’s campaign.

Why is Community Important?

With a strong community established, you will feel connected with others and live with a feeling of belonging somewhere. This also means you’re likely to be both physically and mentally healthier, something which can do wonders for anyone living with a range of health conditions.

Being among others can also be a great distraction from otherwise negative situations. The occasional laugh or moment of reminiscence with friends or family members can make a huge difference to your well-being, even if it’s for a very short period of time. There are loads of ways you can integrate yourself into a community, with voluntary organisations and sports clubs being just some of the more popular ways to get started.

Join The 30 Day Challenge

It’s often the smallest steps which can eventually make a huge difference to your life, so the whole point around this challenge is picking just one action you can make to better your mental, physical or emotional well-being each day. Over the course of 30-days, so long as you stick with your choice, there’s every chance stress levels could start reducing. The end goal is to develop an understanding of how these techniques can be used to make permanent changes to better your life well into the future.
