Home Care or Residential Care Home: Comparison

Choosing the right care solutions can be a troublesome affair with so many complex parameters to consider. The option you go for generally centres around your specific needs, whether that be a longing for comradery or a sense of being within familiar surroundings.

The two possibilities presented to you are usually taking residence in a care home, or staying put and grabbing hold of a live-in care worker. Are you currently pondering over which would be best for you or any loved ones? Then we have compared them both, showing you the key benefits they can supply.

Benefits of Home Care

Familiar Surroundings

Staying within your current home can be a great way to remain calm, collected and without the stress that comes from moving elsewhere. Not only will new surroundings be overloaded with strangers, the transition may also inflict you with a huge number of mental health issues, mostly related to anxiety.

Safe from Covid

The press has been rammed with unsavoury stories about the fact care homes haven’t been the best of places to be during the Pandemic. There have been some alarming instances where patients haven’t received the treatment they need, and this has mostly been due to the unpredictable nature of the world we currently find ourselves navigating. Staying home during the pandemic compared to care homes also means you will be safe from exposure to anyone carrying the virus.

Personal Care

People offering support in care homes may be regularly occupied with others, owing to a substantial workload well beyond their capacity. They may not be able to form a close connection with patients due to limited time in their presence, which is something home care excels with, as live-in care workers will be solely concerned with the health and well-being of just one person.

Benefits of Residential Care Home

Access to More Resources

A care home is likely to be jam packed with medication and supplies, most of which will be brought in daily. Everything from food all the way to sanitary products will therefore be available on a consistent basis. Since care homes are made to support people by design, they’re also likely to be built with the latest technology and innovation made to create more effective care solutions

Companionship

One of the great features behind care homes is the friendships you can make with other residents. Throughout the week, there’s likely to be a number of social functions where you can talk with likeminded people to help form long-lasting companionship. Talking with others can help you feel less isolated and generally brings about more positivity.

Routine

Routines will be in place during your time at care homes, providing you with clear and concise timings for everyday tasks. A sense of order can take away lots of strain from organising each week, and this can certainly do wonders if care workers are communicating with someone suffering dementia, since their memory is likely to deteriorate further as time passes.

Conclusion

Both options come with amazing benefits, but it’s worth thinking about how care homes may not be quite as safe as they used to be since the Coronavirus outbreak. A live-in carer means you can stay home, and also provides you with more tailored care solutions. However, don’t completely rule out care homes! They still offer great advantages in terms of meeting new people and having a regular supply of important medication.
