At Promedica24, we know dementia touches many lives, and we’re committed to supporting those affected every step of the way. This May, our dedicated care managers Helen, Katrina and Donna took on a heartfelt challenge: walking 31 miles over the month to raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK.
Why 31 miles? Because Dementia UK’s Walk 31 Miles challenge encourages participants to walk 31 miles in May—symbolising the 850,000 people in the UK currently living with dementia. It’s a personal and flexible way to show support and help raise important funds for Admiral Nurses, who provide expert, specialist dementia care and guidance to families navigating this often overwhelming condition.
To keep things exciting, our team chose different locations throughout the month, making each walk a little adventure and a chance to reflect on the impact dementia has on so many. Helen, our Registered Manager for the North Team, joined in the spirit, taking part in our first organised group walk. Helen’s dedication to care is truly inspiring—she often says, “The rewards of building relationships with those we support, helping them stay confident and independent in their own homes, are priceless.”
Our care managers, Katrina and Donna embody this same compassionate ethos. Katrina is driven every day by the positive difference she makes, whether through practical help or simply lending a listening ear. Donna, who has over 15 years’ experience in health and social care, finds great joy in supporting independence and bringing smiles to the people she cares for.
This challenge was more than just walking—it was a way for our team to stand alongside those living with dementia and their families, raising funds that help Admiral Nurses provide invaluable, tailored support. The money raised through Walk 31 Miles goes directly towards training and employing these specialist nurses, ensuring families don’t face dementia alone.
At Promedica24, our dementia live-in care services share this compassionate approach. We offer personalised care that supports individuals in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, promoting dignity, independence, and emotional well-being throughout their journey with dementia.
