Spotting The Symptoms Of Parkinson’s

Elderly persons hands resting on lap

Since Parkinson’s is a progressive disease, the prevalence over common symptoms will become greater over a certain period of time. In the early days, people who are diagnosed with the condition are likely to notice significant changes in their movement, and will develop an involuntary shaking motion. It’s also important to identify signs that someone may have Parkinson’s as soon as possible, since implementing the right support will ensure the effects are never able to take too much of a stranglehold over their daily activities.

In most cases, you will probably notice someone with Parkinson’s suffering with just one of the key symptoms, rather than many. The severity of the problems are specific to the individual, so finding tailored Parkinson’s live-in care is the best course of action to deal with any complications someone may be experiencing. Here, we have broken down the three main symptoms, demonstrating how important it can be for people to speak about their problems at events like Parkinson’s Awareness Day

Trembling

Most people are probably aware that Parkinson’s does cause severe issues with people’s movements, which is largely down to the trembling motion that comes from the condition. There are cases where people can still remain fairly independent and active with minor shaking, however more severe scenarios will usually require additional support to carry out even simple things like shopping and preparing food. The two most affected parts of the body would be the hands and arms, where the shaking is more likely to take effect when that person has relaxed their muscles and limbs.

Slow Movement

Maintaining an active lifestyle may also prove more difficult as basic movements will become slightly more difficult to undertake. Rather than being able to walk with a strike, people with Parkinson’s may need to slow their pace right down into small and manageable steps to get around without too much strain. This can be especially problematic for individuals who work within physically demanding jobs where they may be required to use their hands in order to perform certain tasks. If you do notice someone moving slowly, then this could be down to the stiff feeling they have around any joints.

Stiff Muscles

The face could also allow for early indication that someone may be developing Parkinson’s, since their stiff muscles may make it difficult for them to articulate themselves with common facial expressions. Should someone appear stiff and without the usual mix of joyful and weary appearances, then they may be experiencing severe restrictions with their muscle movements. Another prominent issue that comes from this symptom would be painful cramps, which is going to inflict more discomfort as the condition continues to develop further.

Other Symptoms

The aforementioned are perhaps the three most persistent symptoms, but there are also a number of other common signs that come from early Parkinson’s. Some of these centre around maintaining balance, where people might start to fall over on a more frequent basis. Furthermore, there have also been cases where loss of smell has been attributed to the condition, as well as experiencing difficulty with swallowing.
