Case Study: Supporting Ann Williams – Staying Independent with the Right Help at Home

At Promedica24, we understand that the decision to seek care for a loved one is never taken lightly. It’s about much more than just practical support it’s about dignity, familiarity, and the deep emotional importance of remaining in your own home. Ann Williams’ story is a testament to how live-in care can restore not just confidence and safety, but joy and connection, too.

Understanding the Care Challenge

Ann Williams had always been a fiercely independent and sociable woman. However, after experiencing a series of falls, it became clear that her vulnerability was increasing. In an effort to find the right balance of safety and support, Ann tried several care options. She spent some time in a care home, but the environment didn’t suit her. She gave day care a try for a few months, but sadly, her health continued to decline.

Her siblings, who lived some distance away, grew increasingly concerned. Though visiting carers were in place, they worried about Ann’s safety, loneliness, and declining mobility. With no access to her community via a car, Ann was becoming more isolated a far cry from the active lifestyle she once enjoyed.

That’s when they reached out to Promedica24.

Why Live-In Care Was the Right Fit

Ann and her family were introduced to Promedica24 through our local Family Partner, Gary Derbyshire. Their positive conversations were the first step in building trust. Gary took the time to understand Ann’s personality, preferences, and concerns, reassuring the family that live-in care (LIC) could offer the right balance of independence and support.

Following this, a professional care assessment was carried out by our Care Manager, and the decision was made to move forward with our service. What stood out for the family was the thoughtful and person-centred approach taken by the entire team especially Katrina, who made sure Ann’s carer was carefully matched to her lifestyle and needs.

As Ann still had full capacity, it was important to her to remain in the home she loved. She knew she needed more consistent support but was determined not to give up her independence.

A Tailored Care Solution

Ann’s live-in carer supports her with medication management, daily meals, housekeeping, and most importantly safe mobility within the home. Given Ann’s previous falls, her carer ensures a safe environment and helps her move confidently from room to room.

One of the most impactful changes came after our Care Manager suggested that the family invest in a mobility car. Now, thanks to a carer who drives, Ann has regained access to her community. Trips to see friends, visits to local shops, and gentle outings have once again become part of her weekly routine.

When Ann required surgery for a hip replacement, her carer didn’t just stay behind at home they visited her every day in hospital and during her time in rehab. This familiar presence provided Ann with emotional reassurance and gave her family peace of mind knowing she was never alone.

Living Well at Home – Today and Tomorrow

Today, Ann is noticeably more content and confident. She feels safe in her own home and enjoys the companionship and consistency her carer provides. Her quality of life has improved significantly, and her family are reassured knowing that she is receiving high-quality, round-the-clock support.

For Ann, the goal is simple: to continue living safely and happily at home for as long as possible. And with Promedica24 by her side, that goal is well within reach.

If you or a loved one are considering live-in care and would like to explore the benefits of staying at home with tailored support, we’re here to help.
