Your National Care Consultant

Hello, I’m Alison – your National live-in Care Consultant. I started working for Promedica24 in 2020 offering people a genuine alternative to residential care. I have personal experience of being a carer myself and has therefore led me to becoming an advocate for live-in care for others. I truly believe in keeping your independence by staying within your own home is a fantastic option for those who need extra support.

I find sharing my personal experiences with others helps people to understand that they are not alone in finding the right care for themselves or a loved one. An overarching theme throughout my career would be supporting others and helping those around me achieve their goals. I take pride in what I do and I am very passionate about the care provided by Promedica24.

We believe people in need of home care should have a choice to stay as independent as possible, have their care needs assessed and then matched with a carefully selected Care Worker or carers.

Our services vary from simple companionship and respite support to more advanced specialist requirements such as dementia, Parkinson’s, cancer and end-of-life home care services. We also help those returning from hospital and provide respite care.

What’s included in home care?

Personal care

Our compassionate home carers offer discreet and sensitive personal care services, ensuring you receive the support you require without compromising your privacy or burdening family members with intimate routines. They can respectfully assist with toileting, bathing, dressing, or other personal care tasks.

Companionship

For those living alone or at a distance from loved ones, a home carer offers companionship through shared activities like watching TV, playing games, attending clubs, or simply enjoying a friendly chat over a cup of tea, providing a comforting presence and enriching daily life.

Household chores

A home carer ensures a comfortable and relaxing home environment by taking care of all housework or providing assistance as needed. With their help, your home will be kept clean and tidy, allowing you to enjoy a well-maintained space without the burden of household chores.

Getting out and about

Support from a home carer allows you to maintain your independence while receiving care. Your carer can accompany you wherever you desire, whether it’s running errands, visiting friends, or even taking a weekend getaway, ensuring you have the freedom to enjoy your life without limitations.

Dietary needs

With a home, you can enjoy your favourite meals, drinks, and snacks prepared at your preferred times. They’ll handle the cooking, washing up, and tidying, ensuring a hassle-free dining experience. Additionally, they can prepare nutritious meals tailored to your specific dietary requirements, promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Complex care

For individuals with complex care needs, our home carers receive comprehensive training to offer the necessary support. This includes tailored care for specialist conditions such as dementia and cancer. We provide personalised, bespoke support to ensure the highest quality of care for even the most challenging situations.

The Liberating Choice: Care at Home vs. Residential Care Home

The decision between home care and residential care is a significant one, with implications for the well-being and freedom of our loved ones as they age. Learn about the distinct freedoms that home care offers over traditional residential care settings.

Preservation of Independence: Home care excels in preserving the independence of individuals by allowing them to remain in the comfort of their own homes. Unlike residential care, which may necessitate a move to a communal setting, care at home enables people to maintain control over their environment, promoting a sense of autonomy.

Personalised Care in Familiar Surroundings: The freedom to receive personalised care in familiar surroundings is a cornerstone of care at home. Care plans are tailored to the unique needs and preferences of the individual, ensuring that daily routines and activities align with their accustomed lifestyle. This personalised approach contributes to a greater sense of freedom and well-being.

Flexibility in Daily Living: Home care provides unparalleled flexibility in daily living. Caregivers adapt to the individual’s schedule, allowing for a more dynamic and responsive approach to care. This flexibility extends to activities, social engagements, and personal pursuits, fostering an environment where individuals can live without the constraints of rigid institutional routines.

Emotional Well-Being Through Companionship: The companionship offered by home carers plays a crucial role in promoting emotional well-being. Unlike the potentially transient relationships in residential care facilities, carers become a constant presence in the individual’s life. This deep connection reduces feelings of loneliness, providing a sense of security and freedom to share life’s moments with a trusted companion.

No Relocation Stress: Care at home eliminates the stress associated with relocating to a residential care home. Home care allows individuals to stay within the comforting walls of their own homes, surrounded by familiar belongings and memories. This freedom from relocation stress contributes to a more seamless transition into the later stages of life.

In the choice between home care and residential care, the freedom afforded by the former emerges as a pivotal factor. By prioritising independence, personalisation, and flexibility, it offers a liberating alternative for those seeking to age gracefully within the comforting embrace of home. This choice empowers individuals to maintain control over their lives, fostering a sense of freedom that is essential for a fulfilling and dignified later life experience.

What does a home carer do?

The primary role of a carer is to provide you or your loved one with the care and support they require to continue enjoying a comfortable and independent life, all from the comfort of their own home.

Responsibilities of a carer may include household tasks such as cleaning and laundry, preparing meals and snacks, helping you get out and about or providing assistance with personal care, such as bathing, getting dressed and going to the toilet. However, if your care needs are more complex carers may provide a higher level of care depending on your care plan. They can administer medication or support conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s.

How does Promedica24 select your care team?

At Promedica24, our carers are the foundation of our business. That’s why we take necessary measures to ensure they are carefully selected, trained to a high standard and security screened, taking personal and professional references from previous care experience.

Many of our carers have chosen care as a vocation, having a love for what they do. We’re proud to have them as core members of our team.

Our carers report to our experienced care managers. Compared to an unregulated live-in personal assistant, this support system provides a quality of care you can rely on, giving you and your family peace of mind.

During your care assessment, we assess not only your care needs but also learn about your interests, beliefs, likes and dislikes so we can pair you with the right carer who you will develop a close and meaningful relationship with.

What is the difference between Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated care vs introductiory agencies?

Promedica24 is regulated and rated Good by the Care Quality (CQC) Commission. This means that we can provide you with fully regulated and safe care. Our high standards are not only set by us but also by the regulator.

Introductory agencies will not manage your care and you will have full responsibility for paying your carer’s salary, making sure that everything is covered from the tax perspective and trusting that your carer went through a robust recruitment process like the one that is required from the CQC regulated providers.

How does live-in care differ from residential care or hourly care?

Live-in care means that a carer will live in your home with you, full-time, in order to provide one-to-one personalised care.

Our live-in care packages give you the option to stay in your own home, with additional support and companionship. This means you can maintain your independence and stay close to friends, family, familiar neighbours and pets while giving you and your loved ones peace of mind.

Our carers will help you with things like cooking, cleaning, gardening, shopping and socialising, plus your morning and nighttime routines, so you can continue to plan out your days how you want to.
